Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 0.75 cup whole milk, cold

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Step 3

Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes, then add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to combine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the bowl and pour in the cold milk. Gently stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Pat it out into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Fold the dough over onto itself 2–3 times to create flaky layers, then gently pat it out again to 1-inch thickness.

Step 6

Using a 2.5-inch biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting to help the biscuits rise evenly. Re-roll the scraps as needed to cut additional biscuits.

Step 7

Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are slightly touching for soft sides or spaced apart for crispy edges.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 9

Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings.
