Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cup Sunflower seeds
  • 0.25 cup Gummy bear pieces (optional, for a fun twist)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and honey. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it dissolve for 5-7 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir gently to combine.

Step 3

Gradually mix in the whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Flatten the dough slightly and sprinkle sunflower seeds over it. Knead the dough lightly to distribute the seeds evenly. If including gummy bear pieces, knead them in at this stage for a fun surprise.

Step 6

Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to coat the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 7

Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased 9x5-inch bread pan.

Step 8

Cover the pan with the towel again and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes, or until it has risen about an inch above the edge of the pan.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
