Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups basmati rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks scallions, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. Drain well.

Heat a large saucepan or medium pot over medium heat.

Add the sesame seeds to the dry pan and toast them for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until golden and fragrant. Remove the seeds and set aside.
