Ingredients

  • 500 g Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 60 ml Soy sauce
  • 15 ml Sesame oil
  • 30 ml Honey
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 15 g Ginger, grated
  • 5 g Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 g Ground white pepper
  • 10 ml Rice vinegar
  • 2 Scallions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 10 g Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 10 Wooden skewers, soaked in water

Directions

Step 1

Cut the chicken thighs into 1.5-inch cubes and set aside.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, Chinese five-spice powder, white pepper, and rice vinegar to create the marinade.

Step 3

Add the chicken pieces to the bowl, ensuring they are fully coated in the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 4 hours for more intense flavor).

Step 4

While the chicken marinates, soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking.

Step 5

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

Step 6

Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the soaked skewers, leaving a small gap between each piece to ensure even cooking.

Step 7

Grill the chicken skewers for 3-4 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges. The internal temperature should reach 75°C (165°F).

Step 8

Remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for 2-3 minutes.

Step 9

Garnish the skewers with chopped scallions and sesame seeds before serving.

Step 10

Serve hot with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, or as a standalone appetizer.
