Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 24 whole almonds
  • 2 tablespoons red food gel or red jam (like raspberry or strawberry)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

Step 3

Mix in the vanilla extract and almond extract until fully incorporated.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 5

Scoop out approximately 1 tablespoon of dough for each finger. Roll the dough into a thin cylinder about the length of a finger, slightly tapering at one end to mimic the shape of a real finger.

Step 6

Using the back of a butter knife, gently score three or four shallow lines in the middle to create knuckle ridges. You can also pinch slightly around the knuckles to make them more defined.

Step 7

Press a whole almond into the tapered end of each finger to serve as the fingernail, pressing firmly to adhere.

Step 8

Place the shaped fingers on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between them. Chill the fingers in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to prevent spreading.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool slightly.

Step 10

Once the cookies are cool enough to handle but still warm, remove the almonds and dab a small amount of red food gel or jam in the indentation where the nail was. Replace the almond to create the appearance of 'bloody' fingernails.

Step 11

Optional: For extra creepiness, smear a tiny bit of red food gel or jam around the base of the fingers to imitate blood.

Step 12

Let the cookies cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
