Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry sheets
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely chopped
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Take the puff pastry sheets out of the freezer and allow them to thaw at room temperature for about 10 minutes until pliable but still firm. Lightly dust your countertop with flour to prevent sticking.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, gruyere cheese, green onions, and garlic powder. Mix until evenly incorporated.

Step 4

On the floured surface, gently roll out each puff pastry sheet to slightly increase its size. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.

Step 5

Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture into the center of each square, being careful not to overfill.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of each square with the egg wash, then fold the pastry diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly together and crimp with a fork to seal.

Step 7

Transfer the turnovers to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash to ensure a golden finish.

Step 8

Using a sharp knife, cut a tiny slit or two on top of each turnover to allow steam to escape during baking.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm and enjoy the cheesy goodness of Wisconsin Cheesy Turnovers!
