Ingredients

  • 4 pieces bone-in pork chops
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves
  • 1 large Granny Smith apple
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 0.25 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1

Begin by patting the pork chops dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, add the pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove the chops from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

Thinly slice the yellow onion and mince the garlic cloves. Core the Granny Smith apple and cut it into thin slices.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add the onions and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 5

Stir in the garlic and sliced apple. Sprinkle with fresh rosemary and ground cinnamon, and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

Step 6

Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

Step 8

Remove the pork chops again and set them aside, loosely covered with foil to keep warm.

Step 9

Reduce the heat to low and stir the heavy cream into the sauce. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 10

Serve the pork chops on a plate and generously spoon the apple and onion sauce over the top. Enjoy immediately with sides such as mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
