Ingredients

  • 3 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups Warm water (110°F or 45°C)
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and the packet of active dry yeast. Stir lightly and let it sit for 5-10 minutes or until frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt. Mix well to combine.

Step 3

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil.

Step 4

Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a small amount of flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Step 6

Lightly grease a large bowl with a bit of olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat it with oil, and cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 7

Once risen, punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into two equal portions.

Step 8

Shape each portion into a ball and let them rest for about 10 minutes before rolling out to your desired thickness for pizzas.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.

Step 10

Roll out the dough on parchment paper or a floured surface. Add your desired toppings, then bake each pizza for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and toppings are cooked through.

Step 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade pizza with whole wheat goodness!
