Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1.75 cups Milk
  • 0.25 cups Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • 0 as needed Nonstick cooking spray or oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Step 2

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and honey (if using). Mix until the wet ingredients are fully combined.

Step 3

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; a few small lumps are fine.

Step 4

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease it with nonstick cooking spray or a little oil.

Step 5

Pour an appropriate amount of batter into the center of the waffle iron, spreading it slightly if needed. Close the waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually 4-5 minutes, until the waffles are golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Carefully remove the cooked waffle and transfer it to a wire rack or plate. Repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the waffle iron between batches as needed.

Step 7

Serve the waffles warm with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, yogurt, honey, maple syrup, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
