Ingredients

  • 500 g Whole wheat flour
  • 350 ml Warm water
  • 7 g Active dry yeast
  • 30 g Honey
  • 10 g Salt
  • 30 ml Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and honey. Stir until the honey is dissolved.

Step 2

Sprinkle the yeast over the honey water and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until the mixture is foamy.

Step 3

Add the olive oil, whole wheat flour, and salt to the yeast mixture.

Step 4

Stir with a wooden spoon or use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment until the flour is fully incorporated.

Step 5

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead with the dough hook on medium speed for 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 6

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp kitchen towel.

Step 7

Allow the dough to rise in a warm area for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 8

Punch down the dough to release the air and transfer it onto a floured surface. Shape the dough into a loaf.

Step 9

Place the shaped dough into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.

Step 10

Cover the loaf pan with a damp cloth and let the dough rise again until it has doubled in size, about another 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 12

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 13

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes.

Step 14

Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
