Ingredients

  • 1 cup Arrowroot flour
  • 1 cup Almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 2 cups Coconut oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine arrowroot flour, almond flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 0.5 cup of water over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Step 3

Slowly pour the hot liquid into the dry flour mixture. Mix using a spoon or spatula until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more arrowroot flour until it’s workable but still soft.

Step 4

Fill a piping bag or a murukku maker with the dough. Use a star or round-shaped nozzle to create the traditional spirals or coils of murukku. Pipe the dough into small spirals on a tray or parchment paper.

Step 5

Heat 2 cups of coconut oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. To test the temperature, drop a small piece of dough into the oil; if it rises to the surface quickly, the oil is ready.

Step 6

Carefully slide the uncooked murukku spirals into the hot oil using a spatula. Fry them in small batches to avoid overcrowding.

Step 7

Fry each batch until the murukku turns golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Use a slotted spoon to remove the murukku from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Step 8

Allow the murukku to cool completely before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
