Ingredients

  • 4 medium Fresh apples
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lemon juice

Directions

Step 1

Wash and core the apples, then cut them into small chunks. There's no need to peel them as the skins will add flavor and pectin for thickening.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the apple chunks and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes or until the apples are very soft and start to break down.

Step 4

Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the apple mixture into a bowl, pressing down on the solids to release as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.

Step 5

Return the apple liquid to the saucepan. Add the ground cinnamon and lemon juice.

Step 6

Over medium heat, continue to cook the syrup, stirring occasionally, until it reduces to your desired consistency, about 10-15 minutes.

Step 7

Remove from heat and let the syrup cool. It will thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 8

Transfer the apple syrup to a jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator. Use within two weeks for the best flavor.
