Ingredients

  • 8 ounces fresh sushi-grade ahi tuna fillet
  • 1 large ripe avocado
  • 0.25 cup red onion
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 0.5 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Begin by dicing the fresh ahi tuna fillet into small cubes, about 1/4 inch in size. Set aside in a cold bowl to keep chilled.

Step 2

Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Dice it into similar-sized cubes as the tuna.

Step 3

Finely chop the red onion and fresh cilantro. Grate the fresh ginger.

Step 4

In a mixing bowl, combine the lime juice, coconut aminos, sesame oil (if using), grated ginger, sea salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.

Step 5

Add the diced tuna, avocado, chopped red onion, and cilantro into the bowl with the lime juice mixture. Gently toss to coat all the ingredients evenly.

Step 6

Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 7

Serve the tuna tartare immediately on chilled plates or small appetizer bowls. Garnish with sesame seeds and additional cilantro if desired.
