Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cassava flour
  • 0.75 cup Coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Warm water
  • 1 cup Coconut oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the cassava flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.

Step 2

Add the coconut milk and melted coconut oil to the dry mixture. Stir well to begin forming a dough.

Step 3

Slowly add the warm water to the dough mixture, kneading it gently until you form a smooth and pliable dough. If the dough feels too dry, add a little more water, a tablespoon at a time.

Step 4

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a rough ball.

Step 5

Heat one cup of coconut oil in a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat for frying.

Step 6

While the oil is heating, roll each dough ball out into a round disc, about 4-5 inches in diameter. You may use a dusting of cassava flour to prevent sticking.

Step 7

Test the oil heat by dropping a tiny piece of dough into it. If it sizzles and rises to the top, the oil is ready.

Step 8

Carefully slide one rolled-out dough disc into the hot oil. Fry each side for about 1-2 minutes or until the bhatura is golden brown and puffy.

Step 9

Remove the fried bhatura with a slotted spoon and drain it on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 10

Repeat the frying process with the remaining rolled dough discs.

Step 11

Serve the bhatura hot with your favorite Whole30 compliant curry or side dish.
