Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup chives, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup arrowroot flour
  • 1 cup tapioca flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup water, boiling
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped chives, coconut aminos, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Mix thoroughly using your hands or a spoon until all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, beat the egg and add it to the beef mixture. Mix until well combined. Set aside while you prepare the dumpling wrappers.

Step 3

In another large bowl, combine the arrowroot flour, tapioca flour, and salt. Gradually pour in the boiling water while stirring with a spatula. Continue mixing until a dough starts to form.

Step 4

Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough on a clean surface until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more arrowroot flour as necessary.

Step 5

Divide the dough into small, equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a small circle using a rolling pin, about 4 inches in diameter. Cover with a cloth to prevent drying out.

Step 6

Take a wrapper and place a small spoonful of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the wrapper over to create a half-moon shape, pressing the edges together to seal. Crimp the edges with your fingers or a fork for a decorative touch.

Step 7

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the dumplings and cook for 2 minutes until the bottoms start to brown.

Step 8

Carefully add a splash of water to the skillet (about 1/4 cup), cover immediately with a lid, and let the dumplings steam for 5 minutes until fully cooked and the water has evaporated.

Step 9

Remove the lid and let the dumplings cook for another 2 minutes until crispy. Transfer to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

Step 10

Serve hot and enjoy these delicious Whole30-compliant beef and chive dumplings!
