Ingredients

  • 225 grams unsalted butter
  • 120 grams powdered sugar (confectioners' sugar)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 300 grams all-purpose flour
  • 30 grams cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 120 grams powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 3 tablespoons white sparkling sugar or edible glitter

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and salt.

Step 4

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

Step 5

Divide the dough in half, shape each portion into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 7

On a lightly floured surface, roll out one dough disc to about 6mm (1/4 inch) thickness. Use snowflake cookie cutters to cut out shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake.

Step 9

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

To make the glaze, whisk together the milk and powdered sugar (for glaze) in a small bowl until smooth and spreadable. If the mixture is too thick, add milk a few drops at a time until desired consistency is reached.

Step 11

Using a small spoon or a piping bag, spread or drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies in decorative patterns. Optionally, use a toothpick to create intricate designs.

Step 12

While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle white sparkling sugar or edible glitter on top for a snowy effect.

Step 13

Allow the glaze to set completely before serving or storing the cookies in an airtight container.
