Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 pieces large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup toasted wheat germ
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.

Step 3

Add the vanilla extract and eggs to the sugar mixture, whisking well until fully combined.

Step 4

In a separate large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, toasted wheat germ, baking soda, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter.

Step 6

Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Step 7

Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Step 9

Remove the pan from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 10

Once cooled, cut into 12 squares or desired portion sizes. Serve and enjoy!
