Ingredients

  • 3 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.25 cup Milk

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) and honey. Stir until the honey is dissolved.

Step 2

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water mixture and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the yeast is foamy and activated.

Step 3

Add olive oil, milk, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.

Step 4

Gradually add whole wheat flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a sticky dough forms. Then, add the all-purpose flour to make the dough easier to handle.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for about 5 minutes.

Step 6

Lightly grease a large bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning it to coat it in oil. Cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air bubbles. Transfer it to a floured surface and shape it into a loaf.

Step 8

Place the shaped dough into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 10

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
