Ingredients

  • 1 pound Breakfast sausage
  • 8 pieces Large eggs
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups Day-old bread
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Green onions (optional, sliced thinly)
  • 1 as needed Non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Spray a 9x13-inch casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set the cooked sausage aside.

Step 4

Cut the day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and layer them evenly in the prepared casserole dish.

Step 5

Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the bread layer.

Step 6

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.

Step 7

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage layers, ensuring all the bread is soaked.

Step 8

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole. If desired, sprinkle with sliced green onions for added flavor and garnish.

Step 9

Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the casserole is set in the middle.

Step 11

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
