Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cups Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 whole Large eggs
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter (softened, for filling)
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (packed, for filling)
  • 1.5 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cups Chopped pecans (optional, for filling)
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter (melted, for topping)
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (for topping)
  • 0.25 cups Heavy cream (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Stir to blend.

Step 2

Warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C) and add it to the dry ingredients, along with the melted butter and eggs. Mix until the ingredients are incorporated.

Step 3

Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, a little at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1.5 hours.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans (if using) in a bowl until well combined.

Step 6

For the topping, mix melted butter, brown sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth and pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12x18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.

Step 8

Spread the filling mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Starting from a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.

Step 9

Cut the log into 12 equal slices and arrange them in the prepared baking dish on top of the topping.

Step 10

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or up to 16 hours.

Step 11

When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the buns from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Step 12

Bake the sticky buns for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 13

Let the buns cool for 10 minutes, then invert the pan onto a serving platter so the gooey topping coats the buns.

Step 14

Serve warm and enjoy!
