Ingredients

  • 500 ml Water
  • 1 teaspoon Agar-agar powder
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Kinako (roasted soybean flour) or powdered sugar (optional for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons Kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) or honey (optional for drizzling)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine 500 ml of water with 1 teaspoon of agar-agar powder. Stir well to dissolve the powder completely.

Step 2

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a light boil, stirring continuously to prevent clumps.

Step 3

Once the mixture comes to a boil, add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and continue stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Simmer for 1-2 minutes while stirring.

Step 4

Turn off the heat and carefully pour the liquid into round silicone molds, filling each mold evenly.

Step 5

Allow the molds to cool at room temperature for 10-15 minutes, then transfer them to the refrigerator. Let the water cakes set completely for at least 2 hours.

Step 6

Once the water cakes have fully firmed up, gently remove them from the molds by lightly pressing the bottom to release them.

Step 7

Serve the water cakes on a plate. For added flavor, sprinkle a small amount of kinako or powdered sugar on top and drizzle with kuromitsu or honey.

Step 8

Enjoy the delicate and refreshing texture of water cakes immediately. They are best consumed on the same day for optimal taste and texture.
