Ingredients

  • 4 Apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Pure maple syrup
  • 0.25 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1.5 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a deep 9-inch pie dish or 2-quart baking dish with butter.

Step 2

In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, 2 tablespoons of the maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are softened but not mushy. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and the remaining maple syrup until thoroughly combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, whisking until smooth.

Step 5

Transfer the cooked apples to the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly to create a layer on the bottom.

Step 6

Pour the batter over the apples, ensuring the batter spreads evenly.

Step 7

Dot the top of the batter with the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, cut into small pieces.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pudding is golden on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm, optionally drizzled with additional maple syrup or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
