Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1 large orange
  • 2 sticks cinnamon sticks
  • 5 pieces whole cloves
  • 1 piece star anise
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon (for garnish)
  • 4 slices orange slices (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Pour the apple cider into a medium-sized saucepan and place it over medium heat.

Step 2

Wash the orange thoroughly, then slice it in half. Squeeze the juice of half the orange into the saucepan. Slice the other half into thin rounds and set aside for garnish.

Step 3

Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise to the saucepan. Stir gently to combine.

Step 4

If desired, add the brown sugar to the cider for a touch of additional sweetness. Stir until it dissolves.

Step 5

Allow the mixture to heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer gently for 15–20 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully strain the cider through a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices.

Step 7

Pour the strained cider into mugs. Garnish with an orange slice and a pinch of ground cinnamon on top of each serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
