Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Walnuts
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, cold
  • 3 tablespoons Cold water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if you intend to pre-bake the crust. Otherwise, prepare it for immediate use in your pie recipe.

Step 2

In a food processor, combine the walnuts, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Pulse until the walnuts are finely ground and the mixture has a sandy texture.

Step 3

Dice the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add them to the food processor. Pulse repeatedly until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs and the butter is evenly distributed.

Step 4

Add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, pulsing after each addition. Stop once the dough begins to come together but is not overly wet or sticky.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it into a cohesive disc. Wrap the disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the dough to firm up.

Step 6

Once chilled, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to fit your pie dish. Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough into the dish and press it evenly into the bottom and sides.

Step 7

Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges and decorate the rim as desired. Use a fork to gently prick the bottom to prevent bubbling during baking.

Step 8

If pre-baking, line the crust with parchment paper and fill it with pie weights or dried beans. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then remove the weights and parchment paper and bake for another 5-7 minutes until lightly golden. Allow to cool before filling.

Step 9

Use as directed in your favorite pie recipe!
