Ingredients

  • 200 grams unsalted butter
  • 150 grams brown sugar
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 300 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 150 grams walnuts, chopped
  • 300 milliliters sweetened condensed milk

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 9x9-inch (23x23 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Step 3

Add the vanilla extract and the egg to the butter mixture. Mix until well combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a crumbly dough forms.

Step 6

Reserve 1/3 of the dough for the topping. Press the remaining 2/3 of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a crust.

Step 7

Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust layer.

Step 8

Sprinkle the chopped walnuts evenly over the condensed milk layer.

Step 9

Take the reserved dough and crumble it over the top of the walnut layer, covering it as evenly as possible.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the edges are set.

Step 11

Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift out the bars.

Step 12

Slice into 16 squares and serve. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
