Ingredients

  • 500 grams Raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 pieces Garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 stalks Green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1.5 tablespoons Fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Rice flour (or cornstarch)
  • 500 ml Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 12 pieces Wooden skewers (soaked in water)
  • 4 tablespoons Peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons Warm water
  • 2 tablespoons Crushed peanuts (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Add the shrimp, minced garlic, green onions, cilantro, fish sauce, sugar, black pepper, and rice flour to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture forms a smooth paste.

Step 2

Wet your hands lightly. Take small portions of the shrimp mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and mold it around the blunt end of a wooden skewer to form an oval shape. Repeat with remaining shrimp mixture.

Step 3

Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed frying pan or pot over medium heat until it reaches 170°C (340°F).

Step 4

Carefully place the shrimp pops into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes per batch). Drain on paper towels.

Step 5

To make the peanut sauce, whisk the peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, and warm water in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more water, if needed.

Step 6

Transfer the shrimp pops to a serving plate. Garnish with crushed peanuts and serve alongside the peanut dipping sauce.

Step 7

Enjoy your Vietnamese Shrimp Pops with Peanut Sauce while hot!
