Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Vietnamese ground coffee (such as Trung Nguyen or Cafe du Monde)
  • 2 tablespoons Sweetened condensed milk
  • 120 milliliters Boiling water

Directions

Step 1

Place 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of a glass or coffee mug.

Step 2

Remove the lid and the filter insert from a Vietnamese coffee filter (phin).

Step 3

Add 2 tablespoons of Vietnamese ground coffee into the filter.

Step 4

Gently shake the filter to level the coffee grounds.

Step 5

Place the filter's insert on top of the coffee grounds and press down gently to compact the grounds slightly.

Step 6

Position the filter on top of the glass or mug containing the condensed milk.

Step 7

Pour 20 milliliters of boiling water into the filter to saturate the coffee and let it bloom for 30 seconds.

Step 8

Slowly add the remaining 100 milliliters of boiling water to the filter.

Step 9

Cover the filter with its lid and let the coffee drip for about 4 to 5 minutes. Adjust the insert if needed to control drip speed.

Step 10

Once the dripping stops, remove the filter from the mug.

Step 11

Stir the brewed coffee and condensed milk until fully combined.

Step 12

Serve hot or pour over ice for an iced version.
