Ingredients

  • 6 slices Thick-sliced bread (brioche or challah recommended)
  • 3 pieces Large eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons Pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (for frying)
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • 0.25 cup Maple syrup (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.

Step 2

Preheat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet and allow it to melt, coating the surface evenly.

Step 3

Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 5 seconds on each side to absorb the liquid. Shake gently to remove excess batter.

Step 4

Place the soaked bread slice onto the preheated skillet. Repeat with as many slices as will fit comfortably without overlapping, usually 2-3 slices at a time.

Step 5

Cook the bread for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp. Adjust heat if necessary to avoid burning.

Step 6

Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and transfer it to a plate. Cover the plate loosely with foil to keep warm while you cook the remaining slices.

Step 7

Add the second tablespoon of butter to the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining bread slices.

Step 8

Once all the French toast slices are cooked, sprinkle them with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup on the side.
