Ingredients

  • 1 cup White rice (short-grain or medium-grain)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups Whole milk
  • 14 ounces Condensed milk
  • 3 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents clumping.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, bring the water and cinnamon stick to a boil over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the rinsed rice to the boiling water and reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water has mostly evaporated.

Step 4

Remove the cinnamon stick from the saucepan and discard it.

Step 5

Add the whole milk to the rice and increase the heat to medium-low. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and burning.

Step 6

Once the milk is heated through, stir in the condensed milk and granulated sugar. Continue cooking for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens to a creamy consistency.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract for additional flavor.

Step 8

Allow the arroz con leche to cool slightly before serving. It can be enjoyed warm or chilled.

Step 9

Serve in individual bowls and sprinkle with a pinch of ground cinnamon on top for garnish.
