Ingredients

  • 400 grams Canned chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
  • 80 grams Breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons All-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 4 tablespoons Olive oil (for frying)

Directions

Step 1

Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, mash the chickpeas using a fork or potato masher until a coarse mixture forms. It’s okay if some chickpeas remain slightly chunky for texture.

Step 3

Add the breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, parsley, marjoram, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix everything together until well combined. The mixture should hold together when pressed.

Step 4

Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape them into flattened patties (about 2-3 inches in diameter).

Step 5

Lightly dust the patties with flour on both sides to help them crisp up during frying.

Step 6

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

Step 7

Fry the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.

Step 8

Once cooked, transfer the Frikadellen to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Step 9

Serve warm with traditional German sides like boiled potatoes, sauerkraut, or a refreshing cucumber-dill salad.
