  • 400 grams firm tofu
  • 1 teaspoon beetroot powder
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 cups cooked white rice
  • 4 cloves garlic cloves
  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 servings vegan egg substitute
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons spring onions (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Press the tofu to remove excess water by wrapping it in a clean towel and placing a heavy object on top for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

Slice the pressed tofu into thin strips to resemble tocino cuts.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine beetroot powder, soy sauce, pineapple juice, brown sugar, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to create the tocino marinade.

Step 4

Marinate the tofu strips in the mixture for at least 15 minutes or up to 4 hours for stronger flavor.

Step 5

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the marinated tofu pieces until caramelized and slightly crispy on both sides. Set aside.

Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Heat another 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Sauté the garlic until it's golden and fragrant.
