Ingredients

  • 30 sheets wonton wrappers
  • 200 grams button mushrooms
  • 100 grams shiitake mushrooms
  • 200 grams firm tofu
  • 100 grams water chestnuts
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 2 stalks spring onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the button mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, water chestnuts, and carrot.

Step 2

Crumble the firm tofu using your hands or a fork.

Step 3

Mince the spring onions and grate the ginger.

Step 4

Heat the peanut oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Step 5

Add the ginger, chopped mushrooms, and a pinch of salt to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms have released their moisture and begin to brown.

Step 6

Add the chopped water chestnuts, carrot, and crumbled tofu to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 7

Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to combine the flavors.

Step 8

Remove from heat and mix in the spring onions and cornstarch. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Step 9

Take a wonton wrapper and place about a tablespoon of the filling in the center. Gather the edges and gently press them around the filling without sealing the top.

Step 10

Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 11

Prepare a steamer with water and bring it to a boil.

Step 12

Line the steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.

Step 13

Place the dumplings in the steamer, leaving space between each dumpling.

Step 14

Steam the dumplings for about 8-10 minutes or until the wrappers become translucent and the filling is heated through.

Step 15

Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
