Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1.25 cups Warm water
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Vegetarian sausage crumbles
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 medium Egg, beaten

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

Melt the unsalted butter and let it cool slightly.

Step 3

Add the melted butter, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until translucent.

Step 7

Add the vegetarian sausage crumbles to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes.

Step 8

Stir in the soy sauce, ground black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix well, then remove from heat and let it cool.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 10

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.

Step 11

Flatten each dough portion into a circle, about 4 inches in diameter.

Step 12

Place a tablespoon or more of the sausage filling in the center of each circle. Bring the edges up and pinch to seal, forming a bun.

Step 13

Arrange the buns on the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.

Step 14

Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg for a glossy finish.

Step 15

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 16

Let the buns cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your Vegetarian Savory Sausage Buns warm or at room temperature.
