Ingredients

  • 1 cup Textured vegetable protein (TVP)
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup Carrot, grated
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 1 whole Tomato, sliced
  • 0.25 cup Pickles, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup

Directions

Step 1

Place the textured vegetable protein (TVP) in a large bowl.

Step 2

Pour the boiling water over the TVP, stir in the soy sauce, and set aside for 10 minutes to rehydrate.

Step 3

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until translucent, about 3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the grated carrot to the skillet and cook for another 2 minutes until softened.

Step 5

In the bowl with the rehydrated TVP, add the sautéed vegetables, breadcrumbs, flour, ground cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 6

Form the mixture into 4 patties, pressing firmly to help them hold their shape.

Step 7

In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.

Step 8

Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Step 9

Toast the burger buns lightly in the skillet or in a toaster.

Step 10

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a patty, sliced tomato, sliced pickles, mustard, and ketchup. Top with the other half of the bun.

Step 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your vegetarian savory pork burger!
