Ingredients

  • 500 g All-purpose flour
  • 10 g Instant yeast
  • 60 g Granulated sugar
  • 250 ml Warm water
  • 30 ml Vegetable oil
  • 2 g Salt
  • 200 g Seitan
  • 50 ml Soy sauce
  • 30 ml Oyster mushroom sauce
  • 10 g Sugar
  • 5 g Five-spice powder
  • 20 g Green onion, chopped
  • 5 g Ginger, minced
  • 10 g Cornstarch
  • 30 ml Water
  • 2 g White pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.

Step 2

Add warm water and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough begins to form.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Dice the seitan into small pieces.

Step 6

In a pan over medium heat, add a small amount of vegetable oil and sauté the ginger until fragrant.

Step 7

Add the seitan to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 8

Pour in soy sauce, oyster mushroom sauce, sugar, and five-spice powder. Stir well to coat the seitan.

Step 9

Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then pour into the pan to thicken the mixture. Cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 10

Add chopped green onion and a pinch of white pepper, stirring to combine, then remove from heat and let cool.

Step 11

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 12 equal pieces.

Step 12

Flatten each piece into a disc, place approximately 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center, and carefully fold the edges over the filling, pinching to seal.

Step 13

Place each bun seam-side down on a piece of parchment paper.

Step 14

In a steamer, arrange the buns without overcrowding and steam over high heat for 10-12 minutes.

Step 15

Serve the steamed buns warm. Enjoy your Vegetarian Roast Pork Steamed Buns!
