Ingredients

  • 15 oz canned black beans
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 medium red onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 8 slider buns
  • 8 lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 8 cheddar cheese slices
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup mustard
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Rinse and drain the canned black beans, then place them in a bowl.

Step 2

Mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth with some bean texture remaining.

Step 3

Finely chop the red onion and garlic.

Step 4

In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion and garlic for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Add the sautéed onion and garlic into the bowl with the mashed black beans.

Step 6

Mix in the breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper into the bean mixture.

Step 7

Crack the egg and whisk it, then add to the bean mixture and mix until combined.

Form the mixture into 8 evenly sized patties, about 2 inches in diameter for sliders.

Preheat the remaining olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
