Ingredients

  • 300 grams meatless ground beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 80 grams breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 egg
  • 2 sheets puff pastry sheets
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2

Finely chop the onion and garlic. Grate the carrot.

Step 3

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion and garlic until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the grated carrot and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 4

In a large bowl, combine the meatless ground beef, cooled onion mixture, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well combined.

Step 5

Beat the egg in a small bowl and add half of it to the meatless mixture for binding. Reserve the other half for brushing.

Step 6

Lay out a sheet of puff pastry on a floured surface. Spoon half of the meatless mixture along one edge of the pastry, leaving a small border. Roll tightly to enclose the filling, sealing the edge with a little beaten egg.

Step 7

Repeat with the second sheet of puff pastry and remaining filling.

Cut each roll into 4 equal-sized pieces and place them on the prepared baking tray, seam side down.

Mix the remaining egg with the tablespoon of milk and brush it over the top of each roll for a golden finish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
