Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons Za'atar seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Plant-based milk (unsweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon Optional sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.

Step 2

Add the salt and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in the all-purpose flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use the dough hook on a stand mixer for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 7

Place the dough discs on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush the tops with plant-based milk and sprinkle with za'atar seasoning. For an optional touch, sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.

Step 9

Allow the za'atar bread to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature with a drizzle of olive oil or alongside your favorite dips!
