Ingredients

  • 12 sheets Rice paper wrappers (gluten-free and vegan)
  • 1 can (14 oz) Hearts of palm
  • 1 sheet Nori sheet
  • 1 small, finely grated Carrot
  • 2 stalks, thinly sliced Green onion
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce (gluten-free tamari as needed)
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon, freshly grated Ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups (for softening rice paper wrappers) Water

Directions

Step 1

Drain the hearts of palm, then pulse them in a food processor until they resemble shredded shrimp. Be careful not to over-process.

Step 2

Crumble the nori sheet into small pieces and add it to the food processor for a subtle seafood-like flavor. Pulse briefly to combine.

Step 3

Transfer the processed hearts of palm and nori mixture into a mixing bowl. Add grated carrot, sliced green onions, sesame oil, soy sauce, cornstarch, grated ginger, and salt. Mix until well-combined.

Step 4

Fill a shallow bowl with warm water. Submerge one rice paper wrapper in the water for 15-20 seconds until it softens. Place the softened wrapper on a clean surface.

Step 5

Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the vegan 'shrimp' mixture onto the center of the rice paper wrapper.

Step 6

Fold the wrapper by bringing the edges together to form a sealed dumpling. Pinch and fold as needed for a neat finish.

Step 7

Repeat the process with all 12 wrappers and filling.

Step 8

Prepare a steaming setup by adding water to a steamer pot and bringing it to a gentle boil.

Step 9

Line the steamer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking, then arrange the dumplings in a single layer, leaving space between them.

Step 10

Steam the dumplings for 7-10 minutes until the wrappers are slightly translucent and the filling is heated through.

Step 11

Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, like soy sauce or chili oil.
