Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend if desired)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.75 cups Water
  • 1 cup Cabbage (finely shredded)
  • 0.5 cup Carrot (grated)
  • 0.25 cup Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil (or other vegetable oil)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper (ground)
  • 1 teaspoon Cooking spray or additional oil (for steaming)

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.

Step 2

Gradually add water to the flour mixture, mixing with your hands to form a soft dough. Knead for 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.

Step 3

In another bowl, prepare the filling by mixing the shredded cabbage, grated carrot, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Toss well to combine.

Step 4

Divide the rested dough into small, equal portions (about the size of a walnut) and roll each into a ball.

Step 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a thin, round wrapper about 3 inches in diameter.

Step 6

Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold and pleat the edges to seal the momo. Pinch tightly to ensure the filling is secure.

Step 7

Lightly grease a steamer tray with cooking spray or oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the momos on the tray, leaving a little space between each one.

Step 8

Bring water to a boil in a steamer or large pot with a steaming basket. Place the tray of momos inside, ensuring they do not come into contact with the water.

Step 9

Cover and steam for 8-10 minutes, or until the wrappers become translucent and slightly glossy.

Step 10

Carefully remove the momos from the steamer and serve hot with soy sauce, chili sauce, or vegan dipping sauces of your choice.
