Ingredients

  • 400 g All-purpose flour
  • 50 g Sugar
  • 7 g Salt
  • 7 g Instant yeast
  • 220 ml Unsweetened plant-based milk (such as almond, soy, or oat milk)
  • 45 g Vegan butter, softened
  • 15 ml Plant-based milk (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well to ensure the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

Step 2

Warm the plant-based milk slightly to about 37°C (lukewarm) and pour it into the dry mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until the ingredients start coming together.

Step 3

Add the softened vegan butter to the dough. Use your hands or a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment to knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise at room temperature for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Step 5

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a smooth ball.

Step 6

Place the dough balls onto a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking tray, leaving some space between each bun. Cover the tray with a damp cloth and let the buns rest for another 30 minutes, allowing them to rise again.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the tops of the buns with plant-based milk to help them achieve a golden-brown crust.

Step 8

Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden and cooked through.

Step 9

Remove the buns from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them plain, with vegan butter, or as part of your favorite meal!
