Ingredients

  • 400 grams firm tofu
  • 200 grams king oyster mushrooms
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons vegan mayonnaise
  • 2 pieces green chilies
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0 to taste salt
  • 0 to taste black pepper
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 0 as needed calamansi or lemon wedges (for serving)
  • 1 optional sizzling plate

Directions

Step 1

Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then crumble it into small pieces to resemble ground meat.

Step 2

Clean the king oyster mushrooms and chop them into small cubes.

Step 3

Peel and finely chop the red onion and garlic cloves. Set aside.

Step 4

Slice the green chilies and chop the green onions for garnishing. Set aside.

Step 5

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Add crumbled tofu and cook until it turns golden brown and slightly crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil, and sauté the chopped onions and garlic until translucent and fragrant, about 2 minutes.

Return the cooked tofu to the skillet. Add the soy sauce, liquid smoke, and lemon juice. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
