Ingredients

  • 100 grams Shiitake mushrooms
  • 200 grams Extra firm tofu
  • 1 medium, grated Carrot
  • 80 grams, chopped Water chestnuts
  • 2 stalks, chopped Green onions
  • 1 teaspoon, minced Ginger
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 20 vegan Dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped, for garnish Cilantro

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing the filling. Finely chop the shiitake mushrooms and press them between paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, crumble the extra firm tofu until it resembles a coarse meal.

Step 3

Add the grated carrot, chopped water chestnuts, green onions, and minced ginger to the crumbled tofu.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil. Pour this mixture over the tofu and vegetables.

Step 5

Sprinkle the cornstarch and salt over the mixture, then use your hands or a spoon to thoroughly combine all ingredients until well mixed.

Step 6

Set up a clean, dry surface for assembling the dumplings. Place one vegan dumpling wrapper in your palm, and add about a tablespoon of the filling to the center of the wrapper.

Step 7

Gently fold the sides up around the filling while leaving an open top. Tap the siumai on the table to flatten the bottom so it stands upright.

Step 8

Repeat until all filling is used up. Depending on the size of your wrappers, you may have extras or require more than 20.

Step 9

Prepare a steamer by lining it with parchment paper or lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.

Step 10

Arrange the siumai in the steamer, leaving space between each dumpling to allow steam to circulate.

Step 11

Steam the siumai on medium-high heat for 10 minutes or until the wrappers become translucent and the filling is hot.

Step 12

Remove the siumai from the steamer, garnish with chopped cilantro, and serve hot.
