Ingredients

  • 120 grams shiitake mushrooms
  • 200 grams firm tofu
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 50 grams green peas
  • 3 stalks scallions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 20 sheets wonton wrappers
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing the filling. Finely chop the shiitake mushrooms and crumble the firm tofu into small pieces.

Step 2

Peel and grate the carrot, and finely chop the scallions.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped mushrooms, crumbled tofu, grated carrot, green peas, and chopped scallions.

Step 4

Peel and mince the garlic cloves, and grate the fresh ginger. Add these to the mixing bowl.

Step 5

Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper to the mixture. Stir well until all the ingredients are well combined and the mixture holds together.

Step 6

Take one wonton wrapper and place it on a flat surface. Place about 1 tablespoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper.

Step 7

Gently gather the wrapper around the filling, leaving the top exposed, and squeeze lightly to form a pouch. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 8

Prepare a steamer and line it with parchment paper or lettuce leaves to prevent sticking. Arrange the siu mai in the steamer, leaving enough space between each dumpling.

Step 9

Steam the dumplings over boiling water for 10-12 minutes, or until the wrappers are translucent and the filling is cooked through.

Step 10

Carefully remove the siu mai from the steamer and serve them immediately with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
