Ingredients

  • 1 cup Textured vegetable protein (TVP) granules
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 cup Chickpea flour
  • 0.25 cup Nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel seeds, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid smoke
  • 2 teaspoons Maple syrup
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, add the TVP granules. Pour the boiling water over the TVP, mix well, and set aside for 10 minutes to allow the TVP to absorb the liquid.

Step 2

Once the TVP is rehydrated, add the soy sauce and olive oil. Stir to combine.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, ground black pepper, crushed fennel seeds, liquid smoke, maple syrup, salt, and vegan Worcestershire sauce.

Step 4

Add the TVP mixture to the dry ingredients in the large mixing bowl. Stir until thoroughly combined. The mixture should be able to hold together; if it’s too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.

Step 5

Gently fold in the breadcrumbs into the mixture. Let it rest for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 6

Divide the mixture into four equal parts. Shape each portion into a patty with your hands, ensuring they are compact and about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 7

Heat coconut oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the pan.

Step 8

Cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.

Step 9

Remove the patties from the skillet and let them drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

Step 10

Serve hot as a main dish, in a burger bun with your favorite toppings, or on the side of a salad.
