Ingredients

  • 8 oz vegan ground meat
  • 4 oz shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 3 stalks green onions
  • 30 pieces wonton wrappers (vegan)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Finely chop the shiitake mushrooms. Peel and mince the garlic and ginger. Thinly slice the green onions.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the vegan ground meat, chopped mushrooms, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, sliced green onions, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine all the ingredients.

Step 3

Prepare your workspace by setting out the vegan wonton wrappers on a clean, dry surface.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. This will be used to seal the wonton edges.

Step 5

Take one wonton wrapper and place about 1 teaspoon of the filling mixture in the center. Use your finger to brush the edges of the wrapper with the cornstarch slurry.

Step 6

Fold the wrapper in half to create a triangle, pressing out any air and sealing the edges tightly.

Step 7

Optionally, bring the two outer corners of the triangle together and seal them with a dab of the cornstarch slurry to form the traditional wonton shape.

Step 8

Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 9

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and gently drop the wontons into the water. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes or until they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked through.

Step 10

Remove the wontons with a slotted spoon and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or add to soup.
