Ingredients

  • 30 pieces Vegan wonton wrappers
  • 200 grams Firm tofu
  • 1 medium Carrot, finely grated
  • 50 grams Cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 stalks Green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0 as needed Water for sealing wrappers

Directions

Step 1

Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel, place a heavy object on top, and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Step 2

While the tofu is pressing, prepare the vegetables: finely grate the carrot, shred the cabbage, and chop the green onions.

Step 3

In a large bowl, crumble the pressed tofu with your hands until it resembles a crumbly texture.

Step 4

Add the grated carrot, shredded cabbage, chopped green onion, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper to the crumbled tofu. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly.

Step 5

To assemble the pangsit, lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling mixture in the center of the wrapper.

Step 6

Dip your finger in water and moisten the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges to seal tightly. Ensure there are no air pockets.

Step 7

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. The oil should be around 170°C (340°F) for frying.

Step 8

Fry the wontons in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry each batch for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.

Step 9

Remove the fried wontons using a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.

Step 10

Serve the vegan pangsit hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.
