In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice flour and salt.
Bring 1.5 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add the oil to the boiling water.
Gradually add the boiling water to the rice flour mixture while stirring continuously with a wooden spoon. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
Once the dough is cool enough to handle, knead it gently to ensure it's smooth and pliable, without lumps.
Divide the dough into smaller portions that can fit into your idiyappam maker or string hopper press.
Prepare the idiyappam steamer or a regular steamer by adding water and bringing it to a boil.
