Ingredients

  • 200 grams raw hazelnuts
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 60 milliliters unsweetened almond milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the raw hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast them for 10 minutes in the oven, until their skins begins to crack and they are lightly browned.

Step 2

Remove the hazelnuts from the oven and let them cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, transfer the hazelnuts to a clean kitchen towel and rub them vigorously to remove as much skin as possible.

Step 3

In a food processor or high-powered blender, add the peeled hazelnuts and process on high speed until they turn into a smooth hazelnut butter, about 5-10 minutes. Scrape down the sides as needed.

Step 4

Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla extract, coconut oil, unsweetened almond milk, and salt to the hazelnut butter. Blend on high speed until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 5

Taste the spread and adjust the sweetness or add a bit more almond milk if a looser consistency is desired.

Step 6

Transfer the homemade Nutella to a clean, airtight jar or container and store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Step 7

Serve your vegan Nutella on toast, pancakes, waffles, or use it as a dip for fruits.
