Ingredients

  • 200 grams Vegan cheddar cheese block
  • 100 grams All-purpose flour
  • 120 ml Unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons Ground flaxseed
  • 5 tablespoons Water
  • 150 grams Bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 500 ml Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Start by preparing the flax egg. Mix the ground flaxseed with 5 tablespoons of water in a small bowl and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes gelatinous.

Cut the vegan cheddar cheese block into sticks approximately 1 cm wide and 8 cm long.

Step 3

Prepare three separate shallow dishes: one with all-purpose flour, one with the almond milk and prepared flax egg mixed together, and the third with bread crumbs, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper combined.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches about 180°C (350°F).

Step 5

Dredge each cheese stick first in the flour, shaking off the excess, then dip it into the almond milk-flax mixture, and finally coat it thoroughly with the seasoned bread crumbs.

Step 6

Once the oil is hot enough, carefully place a few coated cheese sticks into the oil without overcrowding. Fry them for 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

Step 7

Use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese sticks from the oil and place them on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Repeat the frying process with the remaining cheese sticks.
